Industry Days
Purpose
The idea of an industry day is to have a focussed discussion on a
particular subject important to a specific industry sector. In
general the speakers come from both industry and academia, and are
approximately equally distributed. Typical problems from a particular
industry are formulated, even if concrete solutions are not currently
known, or, conversely, techniques are presented which are common
practice today. Clearly, from the industry side, problems will be
formulated in a generic fashion, so as not to compromise their
know-how. From the academic side, presentations are given of new
mathematical models, techniques, algorithms, and so on, which have
still not been introduced into industrial applications but have a high
potential of being useful in the near future.
Audience
An industry day should attract and foster communication between at
least the following two groups: regular delegates of ICIAM 2007 and
embedded meetings --- those interested in knowing which problems in a
particular industrial sector can be addressed by mathematical tools,
but are still waiting for solutions --- and persons from industry who
attend such an event to learn from the the academic side about
new developments which might be of interest in their industrial
sector. An important part is to create the possibility for mutual
beneficial contacts.
Format
The lectures are by invitation only. The responsibility for these
invitations rests with two to three organizers from industry and
academia. The format is rather open but will fit into the regular time
frame. The general preliminary timetable is: in the morning 9.45 -
10.30 and 11.15 - 13.15 and in the afternoon 14.30 - 15.15 and 15.45 -
17.45. These time slots may be filled in advance, but not necessarily
completely. Lectures of different length can be given, and there is a
possibility to have discussion rounds or a time for free
interaction. The particular format will be defined by the organizer of
the industry day.
