Languages

Switzerland is a multilingual country. Most Swiss are able to speak several languages usually including English. The national languages of Switzerland are:

• Swiss German in North, Central and Eastern Switzerland
  (64% of Swiss population)

• French in Western Switzerland
  (20% of Swiss population)

• Italian in Southern Switzerland
  (8% of Swiss population)

• Romantsch in Southeastern Switzerland
  (1% of Swiss population)
