Arrival at Zurich airport
There are two possibilities to get to Zurich city, either by train or by taxi. Since taking the train is almost as straightforward as going by taxi, we recommend the first one.
|
Train: If you arrive on Sunday 15th or Monday 16th morning, proceed to the ICIAM welcome booth in Arrival 2 (next to the airport info desk) after passing through customs. You will get a 7-day pass (Sunday 15th until Saturday 21th) which can be used within the city bounds of Zurich (zone 10) and from/to the airport (zone 21). If you arrive on Tuesday 17th or later, follow the signs “Bahn/Railway” to the ticket counters and purchase a ticket to Zurich city (CHF 6), which is valid for the entire trip to the ICIAM registration. Alternatively, you can also buy a ticket at the ticket vending machines located at the top of the escalators down to the train platforms. Short English instructions are on a neon red sticker on the machine; follow them or simply press the left (red) key from the bottom set of three, it says "Zurich City". The machine accepts coins as well as CHF 20 bills. In either case, after receiving the 7day pass or purchasing a ticket, head down to the platforms 3 and 4. The trains to Zurich main station (Zürich HB) run approximately every 10 minutes, listen to the (German and English) announcements. Some of them make intermediate stops but all of them take about 10 minutes. Read on for how to get to the ICIAM registration from Zurich main station. |

Taxi:
In case you prefer a taxi to get to Zurich, follow the corresponding signs. Tell the driver to let you off at “Künstlergasse 10” for the official registration or at “Rämistrasse 71” in case you arrive after Monday 16th, 11.00am. The ride to Zurich costs around CHF 50.
Arrival at Zurich main station
After arriving at Zurich main station find your way to the station's main hall. From Sunday 15th morning until Monday 16th noon, there will be an ICIAM welcome booth located next to the end of platform 3 (see picture). Those not arriving by plane, will get their 7-day pass there. The staff at the booth will then direct you either to your hotel or to the ICIAM registration. If you arrive lafter Monday 16th, 12:00am or you have already received your ticket at the airport, go to the station's main hall and take the south exit through a prominent arch (you should pass by a kiosk and a takeaway called “Nordsee”), continue straight across a pedestrian crossing and you'll find yourself at the tram stop “Bahnhofplatz”. In case you haven't already done so at the airport, purchase a ticket (“Kurzstrecke”) at the local vending machines for CHF 2.40. In case you're going to the official ICIAM registration take tram number 3 in direction to “Klusplatz” and get off at “Neumarkt” (2nd stop). ICIAM staff there will direct you to the ICIAM registration. In case you're arriving after the official registration (i.e. after Monday 16th, 11:00am), take tram number 10 in direction to “Bahnhof Oerlikon” and get off at “ETH/Universitätsspital” (3rd stop). Follow the signs to the KOL-building and report to the congress office (KOL F103) to complete your registration.

Arrival by car
We don't recommend to come to Zurich by car, since parking sites are rare and expensive in Zurich, especially around ETH/University. If, however, you choose to come by car, make sure your hotel offers parking sites for your car during the whole week.
